As you may have heard Redakai (Spinmasters) is beginning to push the sealed pack format with several posts on there homepage as well as Facebook Site. As a player I think this this is not a bad idea but it is also not the best idea. Sealed pack can get expensive because the format requires one to purchase four power packs for a retail cost of roughly $24 not including prize fund. So roughly a Sealed pack tournament would cost someone close to $30 to participate in.
The Format Itself:
You will get a pool of 43 cards to use, to build your deck and you can not add anything from your own collection this includes characters, attacks and monsters.
The rules for sealed pack are as follows directly from Redakais Home page :
"• All players in a Sealed Pack event open four Power Packs. Each player builds their deck only using the cards contained in these four packs.
• Decks in Sealed Pack contain three characters, and a minimum of twenty attacks and monsters.
• Unlike in Constructed, your deck can have more than one of a particular Character, and more than three copies of a particular Attack or Monster."
Ok wow so within these 43 cards you need to build a deck composed of MINIMUM 20 attacks and monsters. This means you can always have more which you may need to.
Redakai is difficult I think to play as sealed because you need to hit 3 damage zones on 3 different characters and be sure to draw the right ones. In sealed just make sure you have at least one attack for each area or ones that hit two areas. So when building your sealed deck you want to make sure you have somewhere int he neighborhood of 14-18 different attacks and probably 2-6 Monsters. It is also okay to go over 20 cards if you need to because I personally would rather make sure I have the attacks to finish off a character rather than lose because of not having it. One other thing too to notice is the fact you can use multiples of the same character and also you can go over the 3 card rule in the deck construction. THIS can be a vital strategy to winning many games. Having cards like Koz to make your attacks cost nothing is already good imagine having 3 of him! Another good character to have also in multiples is Maya. Since you will need to make sure you can draw the attacks you need it will give you the most bang for your buck with your monsters you do have always making sure each monster will be a 2 for 1 with card craw giving you an advantage which great! Well hopefully some of you will get to try some sealed pack in the near future at your local hobby shop and enjoy playing more Redakai!
